Step out of the crowd…
Founded in 2008, urban ballerina represents a fresh, modern and highly individualized approach to ballet training.
Consisting of group, semi-private and private sessions that teach a classical ballet syllabus, extensive focus is paid to each dancer’s specific needs and personal challenges that might otherwise be passed over in a group environment.
With ballet classes held in the dynamic and stimulating state of the art Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie studios in downtown Toronto, dancers are inspired to reach new levels of artistic skill and technique and encouraged to let their personalities shine.
urban ballerina is proud to include the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE® National Training Curriculum, a breakthrough 8 level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development. The ABT® National Training Curriculum consists of a comprehensive set of age-appropriate, outcome-based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to dance students of all ages and skill levels. Pre-Primary through Level 5 will be taught by ABT® Certified Teacher Portia Sophia Wade, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.

After one semester with her, I was hooked. Portia’s energy and refreshing sense of humour made this class stand out from your typical adult ballet class.
I continue to be amazed how, even in one-on-one sessions, her teaching style effortlessly combines perfectionism and a deep understanding of the technique with a patient and forgiving attitude.
